From a chemistry andor physics point of view. How do you explain pepper repelling from dish soap?

Tuesday, August 31st, 2010

You know when you put ground pepper ontop of water in a dish.

The pepper floats on top, covering the water. But when you put some dishwater soap on your finger and stick it in the middle of the dish, The pepper moves away from the finger.

How do you explain this in terms of chemistry and physics?

What is the correct way to do significant digits?

Wednesday, July 7th, 2010

When I was in chemistry for 2 years and I learned from one teacher that for sig figs you just go by the smallest given sig fig calculation. For example if you had a number like 1.631 as the smallest given quantity than you would use 4 sig figs. Now in physics my teacher is telling me that the correct way is to only use 3 sig figs unless states otherwise. What is the correct way of doing this? Is there even an official correct way?

What is the most illustrative example of a catalyst causing a change to an element?

Monday, June 28th, 2010

I’m trying to illustrate how a catalyst is needed to change something. I want to reference the world of science because "catalysts" are so often used, especially in chemistry. What is the best illustrative example of how adding one element or compound to another causes the two to change? I recall in science watching water being poured onto a metal that then stared on fire.

Btw, I’m looking for an exact answer rather than just speculation because the material is going to be published. Please, no guesses.

Thanks.

How do I improve team chemistry on Fifa 08 on ps3?

Tuesday, February 9th, 2010

Chemistry improved to 60/100 but won’t go further after 10 games. I see that if you swap people around pre-match, you get a 60+1 or 60+2…i try to aim for this and keep it in the match. How do I break 60? I’m playing my reserves a bit too…that helped in the old ps2 games. Is it because I’m playing Leeds in league 1 and all the other teams are less powerful?

What branch of the military if I am interested in military explosives career?

Sunday, January 24th, 2010

How are you? I was wondering what branch you would suggest if I am considering requesting some type of career involving/regarding explosive manufacturing, testing, design, and science? I have good knowledge of chemistry and physics regarding explosives and I figured I would put it to better use. There is only three different intentions when someone talks about the manufacture of explosive materials , I wish to be put it towards the positive intention. Though some would argue the US military isn’t necessarily positive. But I don’t care about those opinions.
